Everyone at George Romney Ltd wished a very happy retirement to our warehouse manager Malcolm, who retired after 67 years of service to the business. Mal started working for the company in 1955 at the age of 15 and has worked for all four generations of the family! He was an integral part of Romney's success over the years and was a true pleasure to work with.

May - North West Family Business Awards People's Choice Cumbria Winners!

In May George Romney Ltd attended the North West Family Business Awards, hosted at the concord center, where we won the prestigious People's Choice Cumbria Award!
This is the first awards ceremony the family business had attended in its 105 year history, so to come away with an award was a truly special moment.
This award is handed out based on a combination of a professional judges vote & a public vote. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that voted for our family business and to the judges for recognising all the hard work we've done!

May - Partnerships with the Everest 70 Group

Later in May, George Romney Ltd announced a new partnership with the Everest 70 group starting from the 29th May 2023 - the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary & Tenzing Norgay. To celebrate this anniversary Romney's designed the Everest Crate.

Each crate contains individually wrapped White Kendal Mint Cake, brown Kendal Mint Cake & chocolate covered Kendal Mint Cake. George Romney Ltd will donate a percentage of revenue from each sale to the Himalayan Trust UK, with donations being made every 6 months. This donation, alongside product donations made to the Everest 70 group for events across New Zealand & UK, will enable the Himalayan Trust to continue its important work in Nepal and provide support for the mountain people in the country.

September - The County Show

"The 2023 Westmorland County Show is the first time we have had a trade stand at an event of this size, so we really didn’t know what to expect going into it. I’m thrilled to say that it was a very successful week for us and it was great to see so many familiar faces! We also really enjoyed introducing Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake to so many new people. Our hand made fudge bags we’re also extremely popular and the butter fudge samples went down a treat! Thank you to everyone who visited our trade stand and for supporting our 4th generation family business.” - Paula Barron, Romney’s Sales Director

October - The Struggle Hill Climb

George Romney Ltd were proud to sponsor the 2023 National Hillclimb Championship on Sunday 29th October, which saw over 400 riders fight their way up the infamous Struggle. Located just outside Ambleside, the Struggles takes competitors on a 2.67 mile ride, featuring an average gradient of 8.2% and a maximum gradient of 24%!

Started in 2019 by Jack Talbot, the charity event is in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance, who saved Jack's life in 2017. Each rider received a complimentary bar of Romney's Kendal Mint Cake at the event sign in booth. Romney's also donated over £250 in prizes to the various categories 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

The event has so far raised a staggering £14,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance! We would like to say thank you to our fellow title sponsors Wheelbase, who did a brilliant job of designing the finish line banners. A big thank you to all of the volunteers who made the day run smoothly, the spectators who created a brilliant atmosphere. Finally, and the biggest thank you of all, to Jack Talbot who has put so much into this event over the years. Jack should be extremely proud of what he has created and everyone at Romney's feel privileged to play a small role.
